A new game approach takes you to coastal regions of Norway, Portugal and Ireland.

Excitement, fun and science. That's three things at once. That's really not possible!? But yes, indeed it is! With the interactive mini-game "A case for A-AAgora" you solve exciting cases in the coastal regions of Portugal, Ireland and Norway and gain fascinating insights into the local socio-ecological systems and their problems and threats. The solutions are based on the cooperation of the local population and their creativity.

The EU project A-AAgora (https://a-aagora.eu) is part of the European Commission's mission to “Restore our oceans and waters by 2030” as part of the “Atlantic-Arctic Lighthouse” initiative. The project is based on cross-sector collaboration to restore marine and coastal ecosystems and increase climate resilience through transformative innovation.

Here we present a powerful gamification approach that promotes stakeholder engagement, capacity building and knowledge sharing. The game gives local actors a voice, raises public awareness and contributes to education and decision-making. Play along!

Coastal Challenge, an online strategic game developed by the CMCC Foundation under the EU-funded REST-COAST project to engage participants in exploring coastal adaptation pathways. Designed as both an educational and reflective tool, the game simulates the complex decisions faced in managing climate risks along in coastal areas.

In this strategic game, players step into the role of a coastal decision-maker and are tasked with guiding one of three distinct coastal areas (a commercial port city, a small tourist and fishing town, or a coastal wetland farming area) through 30 years of climate challenges. They must balance ecological, economic, and social priorities while addressing sea-level rise, extreme weather events, biodiversity loss, and shifting livelihoods. Grounded in real-world science and scenarios, the game raises awareness of coastal climate risks and explores a range of operational and governance solutions, highlighting the trade-offs each detail.
